Training for Broadcasters:

Making Programmes for a Younger Audience

 

The Broadcasting Authority, The Ministry for Tourism and Culture, and the Commissioner for Children will be organising a specialized training course for broadcasters and producers of Children’s Programmes.  The services of Mr. Jeff Link and Ms Mhairi Campbell to train local broadcasters on the making of programmes for a younger audience have been confirmed. The training course will be organised from 15th to the 19th September 2008, and the draft programme is as follows:

Monday, 15th:

  • What Children Want – Producing engaging programmes for the 21st Century audience.

  • Value for Monty – Economic production techniques for a multi-platform world.

  • Writing for a Younger Audience – Including practical exercises.

 

 

Tuesday, 16th:

  • Advanced Project Management – Useful techniques for streamlined production.

  • Editorial Guidelines – Communicating with a younger audience

  • News for Children – Including News writing exercise and practical editing/production session.

 

 

Wednesday 17th :

  • Malta Perspective.

  • Ideas Workshop – Creative Thinking.

  • Children’s Focus Group

 

 

Thursday 18th:

  • Directing Children – Child safety, coaching, getting the best out of the Talent.

  • Practical Directing Session with Children.

 

 

Friday 19th:

  • Programme Production – Pilot Insert.

  • Playback/Pitching and Reviews.

Participation in this training course is limited to 10 broadcasters/producers.  Preference will be given to those producers with a track record in the production of children’s programmes.  Participation will be at a fee of Lm150 but the Joint Committee will reimburse half of the said fee on successful completion of this course and on satisfactory attendance. 

Prior to final proceeding with the relative arrangements, the Joint Committee would wish to learn whether you have any feedback on this training initiative such as:

  1. the duration, content and dates/timing of the training course; and

  2. whether you would be interested to reserve a booking for this training course.
