Għargħur Transmitting Tower

Circular 10/11

Circular to all Nationwide Radio Stations

The Broadcasting Authority will be conducting maintenance work on the Gharghur TransmittingTower as two dipoles urgently need to be replaced. Given the nature of the work to be undertaken, this assignment has to be conducted during the day and necessitates a switch-off of analogue radio stations.

We will strive to limit switch-off to the shortest time possible. The work is scheduled for Saturday 27th August 2011 and switch-off will be necessary between 5.00am and 3.00pm. Switch-on can take place earlier should the contractor conclude the work before 3pm.

Please ensure that a representative of your station is present at Gharghur on Saturday 27th August 2011 at 5.00a.m. to supervise switch-off. In the absence of a station’s representative, the contractor will proceed to switch off power to the defaulting station.

Should unfavourable weather deter the works on the planned day, the assignment will be postponed to the following Saturday (i.e. 3rd September 2011 between 5.00am and 3.00pm) and a further notification will be sent to the stations. The Authority will be issuing a news release to inform the general public of this planned switch-off and the importance of these works.

Whilst apologising for any inconvenience caused, I trust that the Authority will have your full cooperation on the matter as ultimately these works are necessary to ensure the smooth operation of this vital broadcasting hub.
