Digital Radio Broadcasting Regulations, 2007
In terms of Legal Notice 199 of 2007, the Prime Minister has, following agreement with the Broadcasting Authority, approved new regulations to enable the Broadcasting Authority to license broadcasting content on the new digital radio platform. These regulations contain the procedure which the Broadcasting Authority will be following when licensing digital radio stations. In addition, the regulations set out the text of the relative application form which will have to be filled when applying for a digital radio station with the Broadcasting Authority as well as the applicable fees.
Although the regulations have been published in the Malta Government Gazette of Friday, 27th July 2007, they will enter into force on 1st October 2007. These regulations have been published as early as possible prior to their entry into force on 1st October 2007 so that potential applicants would have had ample time to study these regulations and to draw up the relative application form.
The Authority will attempt to process these applications in the shortest possible time frame and appeals to all prospective applicants to get hold of the Digital Radio Broadcasting Regulations, 2007 as early as possible and to go through them. Should potential applicants encounter any difficulties when filling up this application or need any clarification, they are to get in touch with the Authority’s Chief Executive.
The Broadcasting Authority is committed to ensure that Malta advances in this media broadcasting sector and does not lag behind in technological development. The Broadcasting Authority encourages the take-up of digital radio broadcasting and augurs that this will be a success story for Malta.
A copy of the Digital Radio Broadcasting Regulations, 2007 is available on the Broadcasting Authority’s website www.ba-malta.org. The relative application and tariffs can be downloaded from the same website. A copy of L.N. 199 of 2007 is attached for your perusal.
