The Broadcasting Act, including subsidiary legislations, have been drawn up to cover the activities licensed and regulated by the Broadcasting Authority. In this section you can find the English and Maltese versions of the legislations.

Whilst the Authority makes every effort to update the list of leglisations in accordance with any amendments that are effected, it is suggested that you consult www.legislation.mt for the latest version of the aforementioned legislations.

There are various Legislative Acts which directly and/or indirectly effect radio and television broadcasts and broadcasting content:

  • Electronic Communications (Regulation) Act, Cap. 399
  • Maltese Language Act, Cap. 470
  • Freedom of Information Act, Cap. 496

 

Such legislation is not under the direct administrative control of the Broadcasting Authority. However other regulatory authorities can empower the Broadcasting Authority to act accordingly.  The latest amendments to such Acts can be found at the Laws of Malta website under the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government
