Għargħur Switch Off

Circular 14/12

Circular to all Nationwide Radio Stations

The Broadcasting Authority will be conducting maintenance work on the Gharghur TransmittingTower as another two dipoles urgently need to be replaced. The Authority will also be carrying out works on the top platform railings. Given the nature of the work to be undertaken, this assignment is envisaged to take a considerable amount of time to implement and has to be carried out commencing during the night running over the following day. This will also necessitate a switch-off of all the analogue radio stations. In a bid to limit disruptions to the shortest time possible, works will commence at night and continue throughout the day.

We will strive to limit switch-off to the shortest time possible. The work is scheduled to commence on Friday 20th July 2012 at 23.45 continuing through the day of Saturday 21st July 2012, finishing at around 15.00.Switch-on can take place earlier should the contractors conclude the work before.

Please ensure that a representative of your station is present at Gharghur on Friday 20th July 2012 at 23.30 to supervise switch-off. In the absence of a station’s representative, the contractors will proceed to switch off power to the defaulting station.

Should unfavourable weather deter the works on the planned day, the assignment will be cancelled to another date and a further notification will be sent to the stations. The Authority will be issuing a news release to inform the general public of this planned switch-off and the importance of these works.

Whilst apologising for any inconvenience caused, I trust that the Authority will have your full cooperation on the matter.
